Sustainable FloridiansSM Benchmarking & Monitoring Program
Developed and delivered in partnership with The Nature Conservancy Florida Chapter, the UF/IFAS Sustainable Floridians Benchmarking and Monitoring Program, or “SF-BMP” is a performance-based, integrated, and collaborative approach to reduce the footprint of land development in Florida.
Our mission is to promote the adoption of best design, construction, and management practices that measurably reduce energy and water consumption and environmental degradation in Florida’s master-planned community developments.
SF-BMP is administered and delivered as a fee-for-service educational activity that serves clientele needs while generating revenue to enable and support the program activities. Through applied research and service agreements, our team of academic, public-sector, and industry collaborators creates “living laboratories” for sustainability where we can simultaneously research urban development best practices and apply what we learn along the way to real-world projects.
At Sustainable Floridians “living labs”, we document, monitor, and measure outcomes of development teams’ commitments to beyond-code sustainability performance. To move the needle faster and further toward positive, scalable sustainability solutions in urban development projects, our work extends from the conceptual planning and design stages through construction and post-construction.
We will be expanding this website soon to share more. To learn more now, check out this presentation given at the 2022 National Extension Energy Summit and National Sustainability Summit:
